2010 SR-9 Conclave a Success!
Our second SR-9 Conclave was held on April 16-18, 2010 at Camp Tukabatchee near Prattville, Alabama. Our brothers from Alibamu Lodge did an excellent job hosting the event. The camp was packed as brothers from all over Georgia and Alabama came together to partake in the fun and fellowship. The theme for the weekend was "Nine Flames, One Great Light" as seen on the event patch to the left. The idea to use a theme for the weekend proved to be a great idea as did many of the new events that were added to the conclave this year.
At the Conclave, arrowmen got to compete in Native American Dancing, Ceremony Team competitions, Athletic competitions, and Administrative Competitions. It didn't matter if your Lodge was big or small, every Lodge proved to be the best at something.
We would like thank everyone who helped to make this conclave one to remember, but we especially want to thank our brothers from Alibamu, our Conclave Vice-Chiefs, and our 2009-2010 Section officers and advisers for all of their hard work and long hours that went into this Conclave.
The next major Section event will be the 2011 Winter Leadership Retreat which will be hosted by the Chattahoochee Lodge at Camp Frank G. Lumpkin in LaGrange, GA. Keep checking with the website for more information on that event as the summer progresses. Yours in WWW,

Dear Friends of SR9,
On-line registrations began on January 5, 2010, at
www.myscouting.org
for the 2010 Philmont OA Adviser Training Conference.
This Conference is specifically designed for adults in the Order of the
Arrow.
Participants can register now by taking the following steps:
1. Go to www.myscouting.org
2. Sign in to MyScouting using your user name and password
3. Click on "Event Registration," which is on the left-hand side of
page under "Events"
4. Click on "Philmont Training Center"
5. Click on "Philmont Training Center 2010 Conference Registration"
6. Follow the remaining steps as directed to finalize your registration
Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so folks should
sign-up as soon as possible! In addition to Conference participants,
there are several outstanding programs available for spouses and/or
children who may accompany attendees to the Philmont Training Center.
The Conference fee for the week is $470.00, which includes housing and
meals. The fee for spouses is $340. Children can attend for the
following fee: Ages 14 to 20 ($285), Ages 6 to 13 ($225), and Ages 5
and under ($180).
There is also a great promotional video available about the Philmont
Training Center. It can be found at
www.scouting.org.
Click on "volunteer," then click on "training." Thereafter, the link to
the PTC will be front and center. The needed link under "Philmont
Training Center" is entitled, "view promo video."
It does not matter if adult attendees have been in the Order of the
Arrow for a month or for fifty-plus years -- all currently registered
adult OA members are invited to participate, including both volunteers
and professionals. (This is a great opportunity for Lodge / Chapter
Staff Advisers). You do NOT have to be a member of the Lodge Key Three
to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity for any adult OA member to
enjoy the beauty of Philmont and to learn more about the Order of the
Arrow.
How will you benefit from attending the 2010 Philmont OA Adviser Conference? The Conference is tailored to address the specific needs of the
participants, to share information from successful lodges across the
Nation, and to discuss possible solutions to some of the common
challenges faced by many chapters and lodges.
Our goals are to challenge, educate and inspire the participants
and staff! Some of the
topics that may be covered at the Conference include how to improve
membership retention, the effective techniques of Lodge and Chapter
communications, helpful insight regarding the Quality Lodge Recognition
program, proven techniques to improve Brotherhood conversion, and other
subject matter as requested by the participants.
Yes, participant input will have a large impact on what is
discussed during the week, as we will strive to exceed the expectations
of everyone in attendance!
If you cannot attend the Conference this year, please help to get the
word out to other adult OA members (both volunteers and professionals)
who may have an interest.
If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me,
Michael Thompson, at
Thompson1994@msn.com.

Join Up As A Facebook Fan "Section SR-9 Order of the Arrow"
Think back to a year ago. Most people didn't really know exactly what Facebook was. Now look at the world today; it seems that everyone has a Facebook profile. Within a year, Facebook's population has doubled from 200 million users to 400 million users. After watching this happen, the 2009 officers decided to tap into this valuable resource and use it to the Section's advantage. Section SR-9 now has a Facebook Page which can be found at facebook.com/sr9 . The Facebook Page will serve as a supplement to the Section website and will be updated on a regular basis. If you haven't already, please "Like" or as we used to say "Become a Fan of" us on Facebook. You can also find the section officers and many Lodges on Facebook.
See you there,
